In lieu of actual live games, many of us have shifted our eyes to the realm of NBA2K for us to get our basketball fix while in quarantine.
Among those with a basketball jones are the defending WNBA champion Washington Mystics and the defending champs from the District are too getting virtual with it.
Monumental Sports Network and NBC Sports Washington has aired two video game simulations (with three more coming) featuring the Mystics.
The first simulation aired on May 6 featuring the Mystics and Connecticut Sun – the team that was on the receiving end of last year’s WNBA Finals defeat at the hands of Washington. Another included Washington and the Las Vegas Aces – the team the Mystics dispatched in last year’s semifinals to advance to the Finals.
Future simulations are scheduled against the Los Angeles Sparks, Seattle Storm, Chicago Sky and Minnesota Lynx.
Washington personalities – including players and coaches will join these simulated games with Meghan McPeak, the Mystics play-by-play voice. Elena Delle Donne, the 2019 WNBA MVP and forward Aerial Powers, who is well-versed in gaming lifestyle joined McPeak for commentary for the Sun telecast.
Along with the NBA 2K sims, the Mystics also released Part 1 of a five-part documentary about the 2019 championship season. It begins with the 2018 Finals that Washington lost to the Seattle Storm until that magic moment at the DC Entertainment and Sports Arena when the Mystics kept the winning ways going in the District of Champions.
