The NCAA had already announced that the men’s basketball tournament would be confined to one locale – likely Indianapolis.
In a move that is not much of a surprise, the women’s tournament will likely follow the same lead, according to the Associated Press.
A report from the AP’s Doug Feinberg has revealed the NCAA will likely hold its 64-team tournament in one central location. That location is almost certain to be San Antonio which was already slated to be the host city for this year’s Final Four.
The move, obviously, is done to mitigate COVID-19 risks that come with the cross-country travel for the tourney. The report also revealed that games could be held as far away as Austin to accommodate the need for hotel space, which could be limited even for a city with San Antonio’s size.
One set of regionals were already set to take place in Austin with others occurring in Spokane, Albany and Cincinnati.
