When the NWHL puck drops later this month at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, the two WNBA franchises based only a hop, skip and jump (or skate) shy of upstate New York will have some noteworthy “support” in the stands.
The New York Liberty and Connecticut Sun announced that both teams will have ‘Fan Faces’ of its players in the seats at the Herb Brooks Arena “NDubble” to show support for the respective NWHL teams from the Tri-State Area as well as from Connecticut.
The Metropolitan Riveters play across the Hudson at Prudential Center in New Jersey – a former home of the Liberty while Madison Square Garden once underwent renovations. The Whale’s home ice is Danbury Arena in Danbury, Connecticut (ironically part of the New York City metropolitan area and is equidistant between Uncasville and Brooklyn.

There is nothing we love to see more than a professional women’s sports league like the NWHL succeed and grow. I encourage our Sun and (National Lacrosse League) New England Black Wolves fans to support these incredible women by tuning in, buying merchandise and purchasing tickets for a future season in their respective home arenas.
–Amber Cox, VP Sports, Mohegan Sun (release)
The Liberty and the Sun are not the only two teams that will have presences in Lake Placid. The “Fan Faces” game at the NWHL’s bubble will be strong – championship level strong.
