It is not often when your school’s standout high school hooper eventually joins the ranks of the WNBA—but when she does, it is a sight to behold when she pays a visit to your school years later.

That is what happened at Cy-Fair High School just outside of Houston when the Los Angeles Sparks’ Nneka Ogwumike, fresh off a WNBA championship season, and being awarded the league’s MVP did last week.

Cy-Fair held a special pep rally in honor of Ogwumike. She was introduced by her high school basketball coach Ann Robique.

It meant a whole lot. I can never really forget that I went to Cy-Fair because of things like this.

Dr. Mark Henry, the schools’ superintendent, talked about how she was an even better person than she is an athlete. Ogwumike stayed after the rally to take pictures with students in attendance.
