The Minnesota Lynx continue to rack up the end-of-year awards honors as 2017 will soon give way to 2018.
First, it was Maya Moore being named Performer of the Year at the SI Sportsperson of the Year awards in Brooklyn. Then, it was head coach Cheryl Reeve being named Sportsperson of the Year by Minnesota’s largest newspaper – the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, which Lynx owner Glen Taylor also owns.
Now, the SB Nation site Outsports has named Seimone Augustus its Female Athlete of the Year.
Augustus was a huge reason why the Lynx climbed back to the top of the W’s mountain in 2017. In Game 5 of the Finals against the Los Angeles Sparks, she scored 14 points and dished out six rebounds.
The piece on the website also made sure to mention in 2012 how she helped in defeating a same-sex marriage ban in Minnesota while having no problems speaking publicly on her relationship.
Needless to say, it was a great 2017 on the court for Augustus and big things will be expected from the Lynx in 2018. They will move back into Target Center, host the All-Star Game, play their first season with their brand-spankin’ (and must we say fresh) new logo and will be a heavy favorite to raise the W’s championship trophy yet again.
