The status of Liz Cambage in the WNBA has always been a hot topic around WNBA watercoolers particularly when the Dallas Wings shockingly fired Fred Williams towards the end of the season.
Williams was notably instrumental in bringing Cambage back stateside.
Greg Bibb and the Wings hired Brian Agler in hopes his championship background would be enough to convince Cambage to remain in Texas, but WNBAInsidr’s Rachel Galligan has reported that Cambage has indeed requested a trade from the Wings.
Dallas Wings President & CEO Greg Bibb today issued the following statement regarding Liz Cambage:
“Liz Cambage has communicated through her representation a desire to play elsewhere in the WNBA during the 2019 season. (cont…)

While Liz is currently under contract with the Dallas Wings, we will work to resolve this issue while keeping the interest of our organization the priority.” https://t.co/RvSujmVFyI

As easy as it is to assume, there are, in fact, multiple teams in play right now. Dallas maintains control as she she is still under contract. https://t.co/DpDW74KnxH

The revelation that multiple teams are in on the Cambage sweepstakes is no shock. The question is how much would those teams be willing to give up to get her.
A lot of people asking what their team would look like with the addition of Liz Cambage.

Another side note to the Cambage story happens to be playing out in Los Angeles. The Sparks hired Derek Fisher as its head coach in what was a surprising hire with Williams’ name still out there.
Guess who the Sparks just tapped as an assistant?
The Los Angeles Sparks will hire former Dallas Wings head coach Fred Williams as an assistant coach, multiple sources tell SB Nation. Williams has served as a WNBA head coach for nearly a decade, and should play a key role under first-time HC Derek Fisher.https://t.co/6unHnvediD

WOW. I mean, Liz Cambage loves Fred Williams, and she has been open since she was 18 about her desire to play for the Sparks. Just saying. https://t.co/6Do8E5TzsG

Pending what the Sparks may have to part ways with in a trade with the Wings to get Cambage, her addition to Los Angeles would likely bring the Sparks back to the top of the championship conversation for 2019 along with Seattle, Phoenix, Washington, Atlanta, and Connecticut.
So. Much. News.
