Of the four teams that advanced to this year’s WNBA semifinals, two advanced to those same semis last year. Ironically, those two teams happen to be playing each other this year in the semis – the Connecticut Sun and Las Vegas Aces.
And once again, the Sun are using the #disrespeCT of doubters to its advantage.

On paper, it would be easy to see why the Aces would be the odds-on-favorite. After all, Las Vegas has the No. 1 seed, the MVP, the Sixth Woman of the Year and the Executive of the Year.
But the Sun could be the perfect example of why a team should peak at the right time. Connecticut has posted double-digit victories in both of its playoff contests so far (against Chicago and Los Angeles).
And thanks to Jasmine Thomas, the Sun did so again by virtue of a 87-62 drubbing of the Aces. Thomas tallied 31 points – and at one point had as many scores as the entire Las Vegas team.

In addition to her 31, the other Thomas – Alyssa – scored 18 with six rebounds and five assists. Off the bench, Natasha Hiedeman chimed in with 14 and DeWanna Bonner hauled in eight rebounds.
For Las Vegas, A’ja Wilson scored 19 and Jackie Young finished with 17 off the bench.

There was to be another game that night between the Seattle Storm and Minnesota Lynx, but due to inconclusive Covid-19 tests, the Game 1 of that series was postponed to Tuesday.
