As of late, it has been mostly silent on the New York Liberty front as fans throughout the Tri-State and the WNBA continue to ponder what will be the future of the team.
According to a comment posted on Instagram by guard Shavonte Zellous, no matter who the new owner is, the team is staying put in Gotham.
No word yet on the new ownership of the Liberty but according to guard Shavonte Zellous, it looks like they won’t be leaving NYC ?☕️ pic.twitter.com/jv44iEcybi

It is the latest hint that the WNBA will continue to have a team in the country’s top media market once the dust settles from the Madison Square Garden sale.
A few months ago, ESPN’s New York Knicks beat writer Ian Begley reported that several groups were interested in purchasing the Liberty, but were operating under non-disclosure agreements. MSG has owned the Liberty, one of the WNBA’s original eight franchises since the team and league’s debuted in 1997.
The original announcement of the sale came in November, and occurred at the same time that the now former CEO, David O’Connor, departed from MSG.
It also occurred around the same time Katie Smith was announced as the team’s new head coach as Bill Laimbeer took the same job with the Las Vegas Aces.
