In this interview with SixFootSports, former WNBA player and Olympian Simone Edwards gave her thoughts on her career as a player, her road out of poverty, and where the league is today.
Edwards, nicknamed the “Jamaican Hurricane,” made history when she became the first player from Jamaica to earn a spot on a WNBA roster. Originally a New York Liberty developmental player, she then went to the Seattle Storm where she was part of the 2004 team that won a WNBA championship.
She talked about winning a championship for the fans in Seattle and also feels that the WNBA has made strides in gaining more recognition for its players’ athletic achievements.
Amazing story about Simone. Great job. Looking forward to you covering more stories about Caribbean athletes.
