The women’s Final Four recently wrapped up with the South Carolina Gamecocks cutting down the nets and returning to the Palmetto State with a national championship to place in a trophy case.

The women’s NCAA tournament concluded in Dallas, which plays host to the Dallas Wings, including Skylar Diggins, arguably the most recognizable personality in women’s basketball today.

Prior to South Carolina winning it all, a reporter with WLTX-TV CBS 19 (Columbia) caught up with Diggins and talked about a number of topics. These included the mindset of the players leading up to the Final Four. Also talked about was Dawn Staley and Diggins’ recollections of her as a player and a coach.

Everybody knows what she’s done for the game, how great of a coach she is, and what’s she done recently at South Carolina.

Joe Cook, the reporter with WLTX also asked Diggins about few of the prospects that currently don the garnet and black for South Carolina—including Alaina Coates.

I like her energy and her swag. She definitely does not back down. She attacks. Her ability to be a blue collar player playing with so many stars and being able to still get hers. It just says a lot about her effort and her being a blue-collar player and that’s what teams are going to look for at the next level.

In addition, Diggins also spoke about the Final Four with the Atlanta-based Rolling Out Magazine, in which she shared a somewhat prophetic prediction about how it would turn out.

If I had to pick one team of the remaining three [to beat UConn], it would be South Carolina.

Of course, it was Mississippi State who knocked off the Huskies in the semifinals thanks to Morgan William’s buzzer-beater—then South Carolina topped the Bulldogs.

Diggins also talked about community service initiatives she would be involved in that ran concurrent to the Final Four in Dallas. Also discussed was overcoming adversity.

Moments of adversity are just hurdles. I ask ‘you know why they call them hurdles? Because you can get over them.’ And that’s something that my mom has always taught me about adversity.
