Whether she talks about it in interviews, or rocks his signature kicks during a game, it’s no secret that Skylar Diggins is a huge fan of Los Angeles Lakers’ O.G. Kobe Bryant. This past Saturday, the lucky lady had the opportunity to interview her favorite athlete at the Nike Kobe X Blackout Experience.
Held at Shrine Expo Hall, Nike hosted the interactive event to debut Kobe’s latest signature shoe. Fans who RSVP’d had the opportunity to try on the shoe, walk through a collection of inspirational moments and pieces from his career (including his 5 championship trophies), and were even treated to a dunk contest. One of the key highlights was a Q&A session hosted by Skylar. Bryant, who is currently recovering from shoulder surgery, was asked a series of questions by the Shock guard on various topics. Here are some of them:
How do you stay so motivated?
This is what I do, like I’m passionate about it, like I love what I do. So I enjoy it, I enjoy trying to figure out what I can and can’t do. Like I don’t know if I can come back from it, but I bet- I tell you what, Ima die trying.
Biggest lessons you’ve learned this season and how would you challenge yourself as you prepare for the return of next season?
The biggest lesson is to take it step by step. For example, with this shoulder injury, when the doctor told me it’s 9 months, it was kind of like, ‘Man another 9 months?’ But, what happens from that point forward is what do I do day to day and just think about that, so all I can think about now is the next thing which is Tuesday, which hopefully I get the sling off on Tuesday, start rehab on Wednesday, and just kind of take one swing at a time to chop that tree.
This was insightful, motivational, and fun to watch the dynamic between the to stars. Kobe is the best player of my generation, and I can’t wait to see him back on the court to finish up his trailblazing career with a bang!
