Our WNBA Finals matchup for 2016 is indeed set—and as many predicted it will be the Los Angeles Sparks vs. the Minnesota Lynx.
The Lynx earlier punched its ticket to the big dance by sweeping the Phoenix Mercury in its semifinals series. The Sparks wound end up winning its series 3-1 after defeating the Chicago Sky by a final of 95-75 in Game 4 of its semifinals.
Candace Parker led Los Angeles with 29 points. It will also be her first entrance into the WNBA Finals, which ironically, comes in the same year she received a lot of attention for being left off the Olympic team for the Rio Games this year. Complimenting Parker’s 29 was 21 from Kristi Toliver (including making all four of her threes) and 17 via Nneka Ogwumike.
For the Sky, Cappie Pondexter had 19 points and Imani Boyette put in 15 points and 10 rebounds.
It was 55-31 at the half in favor of Los Angeles before Chicago closed the gap to 69-59 after three frames. Ultimately, in this one, a three-point shooting differential where the Sparks made nine of 13 and the Sky went only one for nine would loom too large.
Game 1 of the WNBA Finals between the Lynx and Sky will be this Sunday at 3 p.m.
