A famous Star will rise to the top of the rafters at the AT&T Center in San Antonio.
Former San Antonio Stars guard Becky Hammon will have her No. 25 jersey retired next month.
The ceremony is slated to take place on June 25. The Stars play the Atlanta Dream at home that day. The team has also announced that the first 2,525 fans will receive a commemorative Becky Hammon T-shirt. A special package for the game also includes a $25 ticket, a commemorative shirt, and a mini-jersey banner.
Hammon has had one of the most illustrious careers of anyone in WNBA history. She is a 6-time WNBA All-Star as well as 2-time WNBA All-First Team player. In 2011, the league named her as one of its 15 greatest players of all time in honor of its 15th anniversary.
She also won a gold medal with the United States women’s basketball team at the 1998 Jones Cup in Taipei and a bronze with Russia at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
Hammon has also blazed a trail for herself as well as women in basketball everywhere by becoming an assistant coach with the staff of Gregg Popovich, the Spurs’ head coach. Many are also predicting her to have a good shot to become the first-ever head coach in the NBA who is a woman.
If that is not a career worth remembering, then what is? Congratulations!
