The year 2020 may be remembered as a lost year for everyone because of the coronavirus pandemic. While it has resulted in unparalleled pain and suffering for so many, it has also brought out the best in plenty of us as well.

Sue Bird and Stephen Curry, as we all know, are not simply winners only on the basketball court. They are winners off of it too and take pride in giving back. The latest act of kindness puts the spotlight on a Black woman doctor in Seattle that is volunteering providing COVID-19 testing to underserved communities.

It has been a rough year for Dr. Kakra who is working to pay off student loan debt and being the primary breadwinner for her two daughters. Bird presented Kakra with a No. 30 Golden State Warriors Curry jersey – plus a $10,000 grant in honor of the sacrifices she made to help stem Covid’s tide in these communities.

“A Gift of Joy” – a collaboration of Rakuten and Curry’s production company – surprises those that have made these commitments to their communities in spite of how they and those communities have been ravaged by the coronavirus pandemic.
