Former player and current New York Liberty director of franchise development Swin Cash was recently spotlighted for her community work on Harry Connick, Jr.’s television program.
Cash talked about how she never wanted to be in a scenario where people put her in a sports box and how she wanted to embark on other pursuits in life.
I always just set goals and just try to strive hard for them.

In addition, she was asked about overcoming challenges in her life when she was at her lowest points. Cash said she fell back on her foundation of faith, family, and friendships.
A lot of times, whenever you’re feeling down, and you’re just in a cloud and it feels like a lot of darkness, you tend to stay away from those that really love you. But I really just held on to my faith, held on to my Bible, my family, and they just really took me through that tough time and I was able to get back out of it.

She told a story of when she came back from the 2004 Olympics in Athens where the United States Basketball Women’s National Team won a gold medal, she tore her ACL but was inspired by her mother to make a difference in another person’s life. Her Cash for Kids foundation aims to empower youth through academics as well as through athletics.
I come from humble beginnings. I didn’t have a lot of money growing up. But it really was about the community that supported me. So, that’s what I try to give back to the youth.

Towards the end, Cash also helped Connick with his three-point shot—which judging by this video needed the work badly…at least initially…
