Throughout her illustrious career, Tamika Catchings has been the personification of leadership on and off the court. In addition to cementing her status as one of the greatest players in WNBA history, she has also used her platform to be a positive influence in her community.

On Tuesday, the WNBA announced she would be honored with the Dawn Staley Community Leadership Award. It is the second time Catchings has received the award.

As a result, the WNBA will make a $10,000 donation to the Catch The Stars foundation on Catchings’ behalf.

“Tamika’s passion for the game and her dedication to the community has inspired Fever fans across Indiana and WNBA fans around the world.”

Catchings was also the recipient of the inaugural Staley Community Leadership Award in 2007.

“It’s important for me to give back to the community because there are so many kids that aspire to be where we are. Our mission with Catch The Stars Foundation is to prepare our youth to catch their dreams one star at a time, and I’m fully engaged in helping to open up doors for all of youth and anyone that I come in contact with.”

It is also fitting she is receiving this award in her final season in the WNBA. Even though she is on the verge of hanging up her jersey, Catchings holds the titles of role model, difference maker, and community leader—all even more important than WNBA great.
