In order to be the best, athletes take supreme care of their bodies both inside and out. Not only do they work out and put in countless hours in practice and the gym, but they take into account everything that enters their bodies.
2X WNBA Champion Maya Moore has talked previously with media outlets such Stack Magazine about the little changes she began to make to her diet in order to maximize her on-court performance. After the seeing the results begin pay off, she recently took it a step further, joining the Beyond Meat team to promote the benefits of plant-based protein diet.
Beyond Meat, founded by Ethan Brown in 2009, offers plan-based meat substitutes and vegan-friendly products that are healthy alternative options that also environmentally friendly. Available nationwide at retailers like Whole Foods and Publix, their products include Beyond Chicken Strips made from non-GMO soy and pea protein, and Beyond Beef Meatballs also made from pea protein. The team also includes J.J. Redick of the L.A. Clippers and Eric Bledsoe of the Phoenix Suns. As stated on their company website, Beyond Meat’s mission is as follows:
“We believe there is a better way to feed the planet. Our mission is to create mass-market solutions that perfectly replace animal protein with plant protein. We are dedicated to improving human health, positively impacting climate change, conserving natural resources and respecting animal welfare. At Beyond Meat, we want to make the world a better place and we’re starting one delicious meal at a time.”
Earlier this season, I had the chance to attend the Lynx/Sparks game in Minnesota, where a video was shown throughout the game showcasing Maya preparing one of her go-to meal, a fresh salad. After the game, I caught up with the All-Star to talk about some of the dietary changes she’s made and the results she has seen this far:
There is no doubt that these changes have had a major impact on Maya’s game, where we have seen her do some amazing and stellar things on the court. So let’s start a conversation: have you ever made any changes to your diet, and how did it make you feel afterwards? Feel free to share tips and what worked and didn’t work for you as well. Let’s chat!
