Elena Delle Donne and her bride-to-be Amanda Clifton are looking forward to their upcoming wedding – and from the looks of things, it is shaping up to be quite the occasion.
November 3rd in New York City is the big day – but they do not even know where the honeymoon will be until after the reception.
What Delle Donne and Clifton do know is that they recently received a major honor from The Knot – a magazine that covers all things “I Do.” They were named The Knot’s 2017 Dream Wedding Couple and have earned the honor of being the first same-sex couple to receive said honor.
A charity registry will be created on TheKnot.com allowing for donations to The Elena Delle Donne Foundation. The primary causes championed are helping those with special needs (such as her sister Lizzie who was born with disabilities) as well as those with Lyme Disease – which Delle Donne was diagnosed with in 2008.
Delle Donne and Clifton have reportedly been working with a Brooklyn wedding planner to make sure everything goes flawless for the big day. A few of Delle Donne’s Washington Mystics teammates are also scheduled to be in attendance as well.
I’m really excited to share the day with them.

She also reflected on how everything culminated in the upcoming wedding. Delle Donne revealed she was a lesbian in August of last year – around the same time the United States Women’s National Basketball Team was preparing to compete in the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
The announcement was not as ballyhooed as others when athletes have decided to do so – exactly how she wanted it.
I didn’t want it to be this earth-shattering announcement. I just wanted it to be normal. That’s what I’m hoping for the future – that people don’t have to come out.
She did mention how the announcement has made Clifton somewhat of a celebrity in her own right. The soon-to-be-betrothed pair received a litany of support via social media after the announcement last August, but it did signify a change of things for Clifton.
She’s kind of behind the scenes and doesn’t want to be in the spotlight that much. But I guess kind of knew that’d be coming, right?
Regardless, wedding day is only a few weeks away – and per the New Now Next article – Elena and Amanda are already looking ahead to the next chapter of their life which includes plans to start a family. Early congratulations are certainly in order as the big day is just around the corner!
