The vast majority of athletes competing in the Olympics will stay at the Olympic Village, which is basically a secluded apartment complex for competitors, coaches, and other staff, which has been compared in some respects to your typical college dorm.
The USA Basketball Women’s National Team says to the Olympic Village, “Uh, we’ll pass.”
The team has decided on staying on the Silver Cloud luxury liner. The men’s basketball team will also stay aboard the ship.
Good luck trying to get anywhere close to that ship if you are in Rio as reports say it will feature a heavy security and police presence during the Olympics.
It is not an entirely major surprise given that the USA Basketball teams have not stayed in the Village since 1988—but we’re guessing one notable Australian player in particular is looking with a bit of envy at the USA Women’s and Men’s teams’ temporary digs in Brazil…
