During Wednesday’s Sports Innovation Conference at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob made some comments that ought to catch the attention of plenty a WNBA fan.

He was aske about the concept of the Warriors pursuing a WNBA franchise after the completion of the Chase Center in San Francisco.

I think the Bay Area could sustain it and maybe it would be one of the most successful WNBA franchises. We will be interested in that at the right time.

Late last year, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reported that the Warriors were indeed putting together a plan for a WNBA franchise after they move out of Oracle Arena in Oakland.

WNBA president Lisa Borders also notably made a trip to the Bay Area during last year’s NBA Finals which the Warriors won. The San Francisco Bay Area is currently the largest market without a team.
