This one was somewhat expected at this point. But still – coronavirus, haven’t you done enough damage?
On May 12 – a few days before the scheduled start of the WNBA season, the Washington Mystics were set to celebrate its 2019 championship with a celebratory parade through the streets of the Nation’s Capital. Said parade honoring the Mystics’ first-ever title was to start at the National Museum of Women and conclude at Capital One Arena.
That parade has now been postponed due to Covid-19.
After Washington’s WNBA title victory over the Connecticut Sun in last season’s Finals, the Mystics held a celebratory rally at the DC Entertainment and Sports Arena instead of a parade as the championship came right up against many Mystics players beginning to play overseas – where they earned significantly higher salaries than stateside in the W.
Monumental Sports Network has made games from the Mystics’ semifinals victory over the Las Vegas Aces and Finals win over the Connecticut Sun available until April 30. NBC Sports Washington will air the Mystics-Aces series on April 18 and will air the five-game Finals series with Connecticut on April 26.
When NBC Sports Washington airs the games, several Mystics players – including Elena Delle Donne, Ariel Atkins and Natasha Cloud will live-tweet from the Washington Twitter account. Eric Thibault, the Mystics’ assistant coach will also participate.
