When the Washington Mystics defend its 2019 WNBA championship in 2020, the team will have a slightly different configuration near its bench at DC Entertainment and Sports Arena.

The Mystics announced that Asjha Jones, previously a player development assistant, was promoted to assistant coach under head coach Mike Thibault.

Her basketball accomplishments are unmatched in that she is the only person to have won an NCAA championship as a player, a WNBA championship as a player and coach, and an Olympic gold medal as a player. I know how professional she was and how hard she worked when she played for me in Connecticut and I am excited that she will be a part of the future growth of the Washington Mystics.

Most of Jones’ career was with the Sun even though she was drafted by Washington in 2002. She made a pair of All-Star appearances and also was in Minnesota in 2015 when the Lynx won that year’s WNBA championship.

Jones also has a bevy of experience overseas including playing in Russia and Spain.

Monumental Sports & Entertainment has shown how much they value the Mystics and continues to be a leading example in the WNBA. I would also like to thank Coach Thibault for having faith in me. I can’t wait for the season to begin!
