The 2018 WNBA champion Seattle Storm are being honored in a unique way by some of its biggest fans in the Washington State Senate.
One of the items on the recent agenda in Olympia was the creation of a special commemorative license plate for the Storm.
The Seattle Storm license plate would be the first in our state for a women’s sports team.
–Sen. Emily Randall (D-Bremerton)
That passed – nearly unanimously – through the Washington State Senate by a vote of 47-1. The only nay vote came from the Senate Republican Leader – Mark Schoesler – from the Evergreen State’s ninth legislative district that includes Spokane.
A big win for #WNBA fans and our champs! SB 5930 just passed the Senate & would create official @seattlestorm license plates. Proceeds from sales would support athletic and recreational opportunities for women and girls. #waleg

Even though the bill sailed through the Washington State Senate with flying colors, Storm players voiced their displeasure through Twitter on the lone dissenter from Ritzville.
Really, Mark? 🙄 https://t.co/0DyPZIrARp

Loyd retweeted Bird’s tweet.
I’m excited about this bill because it’s a great win for gender parity and also because the funds raised by this plate will go toward investing in the promise of young women and girls.
