The happenings that occurred over the weekend in Charlottesville, Virginia were unquestionably one of the saddest—at least in recent history if not in history overall.
A white nationalist rally met with fierce opposition by anti-racist protestors leading to a clash between the two sides and resulting in the death of 32-year-old Heather Heyer as well as 20 others being injured.
And the lukewarm, but over-the-top, reaction by you-know-who did not help matters either.
On Monday, Dallas Wings head coach Fred Williams was a guest on the Dishin’ and Swishin’ podcast hosted by David Siegel. Williams–one of five black head coaches in the WNBA, shared his take on this weekend’s tragic events and how the country can heal after Charlottesville.
I think for us, it’s just for us to gather as a unit, ourselves and be role models for the young people out there.
–Fred Williams
We all come from different nationalities and different ways of life. We’ve always said ‘One team.’ And I think that’s how the world has to be. The nation has to be that way as well—be one team and be together.
Of course, the events and the response to Charlottesville has not been lost on WNBA figures and luminaries as it continues to establish itself as one of the more “woke” sports leagues.
Global warfare is a daily concern & racism is STILL the greatest threat 2 ??? Love trumps hate; faith consumes fear. https://t.co/TNseOIXequ
