Ask any number of WNBA fans and they will tell you that sometimes they are frustrated with the lack of marketing the league seemingly does to grow itself.
With so many marketable players within the W’s ranks, it boggles the minds of many why they are not as heavily marketed as their male counterparts.
Then sometimes, there are moments that make even the biggest critics go, “Ok, I like where we are going here. We see you!.”
At halftime during TNT and TBS’ coverage of the NBA All-Star Game in Charlotte, one may have noticed an advertisement for an upcoming Marvel Studios (you know, the folks behind Avengers and Black Panther) movie “Captain Marvel” which will be in theaters starting March 8 – Women’s International Day. Brie Larson plays the main character – Carol Danvers.
That ad also cross-promoted the WNBA by highlighting the “superheroine” talents that are widespread among its players.
#WNBA x @Marvel… proving to young girls that grit, power & strength can make a HERo!

It also was a reminder that the season tips off on May 24. Two games will occur as the Dallas Wings take on the Atlanta Dream in what will be the Dream’s first game back at State Farm Arena since 2016. Also, the Indiana Fever start its season on the road as the New York Liberty await them at the Westchester County Center.
