According to a Mystics press release, Delle Donne underwent successful surgery to repair her back injury she sustained in last season’s playoffs. Originally, it was thought she was playing through one herniated disc, but she actually fought through three.
The team described the surgery as “minor”
The procedure, according to the team, was performed by Dr. Andrew Dossett on Jan. 24 in Dallas. Dossett has worked with other notable athletes, including Michael Porter, Jr., Tony Romo, Jordan Zimmerman and Emeka Okafor.
Dossett is the spine consultant for the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and Dallas Stars.
The Mystics’ release also said more information will be provided at the outset of training camp.
The 2019 season was a banner campaign for Delle Donne. In addition to winning her first WNBA championship and the regular season MVP, she became the first player in the W’s history to shoot at least 50 percent from the field, 40 percent from behind the arc and 90 percent at the free-throw line.
Washington will receive its championship rings and raise its 2019 championship banner to the rafters of the DC ESA during a nationally televised contest with the Los Angeles Sparks on May 16 at 4 p.m. on ESPN.
