The weather here in NYC couldn’t have been more suitable for a day to celebrate our queens! Today we not only pay homage to our personal mothers, but we pay homage to women everywhere who perform this God-given duty with grace, class, and pride.
To the players of the WNBA who juggle raising a child….or children….while traveling countless times a year, training, playing overseas, and running businesses, we salute you!
To the women behind-the-scenes who keep the league afloat and run the business, media, and legal affairs of the WNBA, while managing to make it home at night to check homework, prep lunches, and tuck your babies in at night, we salute you!
To the players and staff of the WNBA who may not have children of their own, but impact the lives of our youth through their gifts, hard work, community service, mentorship, and setting positive examples, we salute you!
To the mothers, grandmothers, aunties, sisters, and godmothers of past, present, and future players who sacrifice Saturday mornings for practice and games, use vacation time to travel cross-country with their kids’ AAU teams, work extra hours to pay for camps and uniforms, rush home from work to cheer from the sidelines. stay up late to make sure their kids make nail that lay-up, and so much more, we salute!
To the women around the world who allow our girls to explore and strengthen their athletic abilities regardless of societal norms and cultural restrictions, we salute you!
To the women who let athletes thrive in their greatness, we salute you!
Happy Mother’s Day from the Beyond The W team! And if the tears aren’t flowing yet, this might work:
