While one Connecticut Sun player came up just short in the skills competition, another just could not miss in hers.

Jonquel Jones just barely lost in the final round of the Skills Challenge to Diamond Deshields of the Chicago Sky, but her Sun teammate Shekinna Stricklen scored 23 points in the final round of the 3-point competition, preventing a win by the Las Vegas Aces’ Kayla McBride who posted a 22 in her final round.

Stricklen started her competition with a 21 in the opening round. To the surprise of many, the Chicago Sky’s Allie Quigley, the two-time defending champion of the 3-point contest only put up 19 points in the first round and could not advance to the final.

It is also the second consecutive year that McBride was defeated in the final. She was bested by Quigley at last year’s 3-point contest final which occurred at halftime of the All-Star Game at Target Center in Minneapolis.

Chelsea Gray (Los Angeles Sparks), Kia Nurse (New York Liberty) and Erica Wheeler (Indiana Fever) also took part.

Stricklen won $10,000 for Room 29:11 – a charity that helps children in foster care.
